Boost from young collectors at Spring Stampex 2017

Stamp Active Stand at Spring Stampex

There was a big boost at Spring Stampex from an influx on young collectors. The numbers were noticeably higher than previous shows, particularly on Wednesday and Saturday. The PTS had improved advertising and the Mr Men theme for the new Children’s Feature Area, which was located next to the Stamp Active Kids Zone, was popular as it also included the photo-booth. The PTS provided a free Stampex Smiler Sheet to all young collectors, worth £18.95, which was much appreciated. The Kids Zone, run by the Stamp Active Network, featured stamp-based activities based on Royalty, with activity sheets and prizes.

The “Guess the Stamps in the Jar” competition was won by KAZ BRASH of Oxford, taking home a Penny Black, sponsored by the Philatelic Trader’s Society. The free children’s auction on Saturday drew a big crowd with lots of items to bid for, using their activity points. All the children taking part were entered into a free draw for a Penny Black, donated by Robin Cassell of Mulready Philatelics.

Young visitors to Stampex also had the opportunity to create their own piece of Stamp Art at the show. Suzanne Rae of Art Stamped hosted a free workshop every day to allow kids to create their own piece of unique stamp art. Suzanne was very impressed with some of the creations which were of a high standard. All the stamps and craft materials were provided. You can see examples of Suzanne’s work at www.artstamped.com

Also on show in the Kids Zone were all the entries for the national youth stamp competition. The Stamp Active Competition will also be held at Autumn Stampex alongside the British Youth Stamp Championships. This provides an opportunity for both the new and experienced young collectors to show their collections.
