Ian Varey wins Bill Hart Award 2012
Ian Varey has been presented with the Bill Hart Award for outstanding service to youth philately.
The award is made only once each year to someone who has made a significant contribution to the hobby. Ian has been responsible for the design of most of the activities at the youth area at Stampex for many years. He has also designed the activities for both Stamp Fun Activity Books including the recent “Sport on Stamps”. He has also produced the displays that have attracted so much interest in the youth area each year.
He has been a regular supporter of the youth stands, producing the goodie bags and auction lots as part of the group that organises the stand each year. Commenting on the award, Chairman of the Stamp Active Network, John Davies, said “There can hardly be a more deserving individual for this award. Ian has not only been hard-working but has been so creative in designing so many of the stamp collecting activities for youngstsers that he can be considered to have inspired a generation.”
Ian signed the roll of honour and received a certificate along with a gift of a framed set of the Olympic winners stamps as a memento of the award.
