Recollections from Ian Proctor

I am now 83. I still remember the early days of my collecting when I was 8 or 9 years old. The buzz of excitement when I was given some stamps for my collection. “Would there be duplicates for swapping with my friends? Would there be new stamps from a country that I had never heard of which would lead me to finding it on my world atlas?”

I loved to discover the stories and history behind the stamps. I found out about The Battle of Trafalgar, India’s Independence in 1947, America’s Space Exploration and Dunkirk. In later years I concentrated on Commonwealth and then British stamps. I’m still a collector some 75 years on and still really enjoy it.
